Amazon Studios has an ambitious spy thriller series on the way – and two of the stars have been announced.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico, Baywatch) and Richard Madden (Bodyguard, Game of Thrones) have been cast as leads in Citadel, an upcoming Amazon show described as a “global thriller multi-series.”
Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are attached as executive producers and directors on the multi-series franchise, which will feature local-production series branches from Mexico, Italy and India. As reported by Deadline, Madden and Chopra are set to lead the U.S. “mothership” edition. Other big names are expected to be announced soon.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the series is being called an action-packed spy series with a compelling emotional center.
It’s quite the project for Amazon, who are working with an international team that include Cattleya Studios (Gomorrah) for the Italian series and Krishna D.K. & Raj Nidimoru (creators of acclaimed Indian Amazon series The Family Man) for the India series.
Chopra will soon be seen in two Netflix movies: Robert Rodriguez’s We Can Be Heroes, about a young girl who assembles a group of young heroes to fight an alien invasion; and The White Tiger, an Indian epic based on the award-winning book by Aravind Adiga.
