The final official trailer for Clayface has arrived, offering the biggest look yet at the gruesome shape-shifting powers driving one of DC‘s darkest big-screen chapters. There’s body horror, some very unpleasant new ways to kill someone and another tease of the monster Hagen will eventually become. Watch the trailer above and get the details below.
Matt Hagen’s Powers Are Getting Seriously Disturbing
The film follows Matt Hagen, a Gotham street kid who claws his way into becoming a Hollywood leading man before an encounter with a local crime boss leaves him horribly disfigured. He undergoes an experimental treatment that appears to give him exactly what he wants. Naturally, things don’t stay miraculous for long. His body begins changing in increasingly extreme ways, while revenge and a deteriorating grip on reality pull him towards something far removed from the movie star he once was.
More on Screen Realm:
Considering Clayface is now less than a month from cinemas, Warner Bros. has kept the marketing surprisingly light. This final trailer lets a little more of the madness loose, particularly when it comes to what Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries, White Lines) can actually do with his increasingly unstable body.
One of the nastier new shots has Hagen smothering a man by drawing his face straight into his own torso. The victim struggles with his head effectively buried inside Matt’s chest. And Hagen isn’t limited to stretching, melting and reshaping himself.
Dr. Caitlin Corr (Naomi Ackie) warns detective John Borelli (Max Minghella) that “Matt Hagen can change his face”, and we soon get a better idea of just how literal that is. Eddie Marsan appears on screen, only for that face to shift away and reveal Hagen underneath.
Clayface’s Final Form Is Still Being Kept Secret

There are brief flashes of Hagen becoming something much larger and considerably less recognisable, but the completed Clayface design remains hidden. Given how easily that reveal could have been plastered across every trailer and poster, the restraint is becoming one of the more intriguing parts of the campaign.
Harries certainly isn’t trying to lower expectations. Speaking to Empire about the creature audiences will eventually see, the film’s star kept his assessment admirably simple: “It’s fucking sick!”
Director James Watkins, whose horror credits include Eden Lake, The Woman in Black and Speak No Evil, has also insisted the film isn’t backing away from the nastier possibilities of the character.
“When we were at San Diego Comic-Con, people were like, ‘I hope you don’t go soft.’ And I’m like, ‘Trust me, we don’t go soft,'” Watkins told Empire. “But at the same time, there is that line. It’s a ride. It’s fun. It’s not torture. It’s a rollercoaster.”
The filmmaker has pointed to body-horror touchstones including David Cronenberg’s The Fly and The Substance, and yeah, the footage so far suggests the comparisons are apt.
The Supporting Cast and Creative Team
Alongside Rhys Harries, Ackie, Minghella and Marsan, the cast includes David Dencik, Nancy Carroll and Joshua James.
Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini (Drive), based on a story by Flanagan. Behind the camera, Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Civil War cinematographer Rob Hardy serves as director of photography, with Jon Harris (127 Hours, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) editing and Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front composer Volker Bertelmann providing the score.
Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn and Peter Safran produce.
When Is Clayface Released?
Clayface arrives in Australian cinemas on October 22 and U.S. cinemas on October 23, 2026.
