Take a look at three clips released from The Neon Demon, the next film from polarizing filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Drive, Only God Forgives).
The film sees Elle Fanning playing Jesse, an aspiring model who moves to L.A. in the hope of making it big. As she begins to climb the ladder in this world of glamour and beauty, the true nature of the industry starts to rear its ugly head.
As expected, early reviews have varied widely, from acclaim for the filmmaker’s artistic and gutsy approach to his metaphors, to criticisms for the pointless, gratuitous shenanigans and been-there-before commentary. In other words, this is decidedly Refn material, and one we’re intrigued to check out.
The three clips below provide a bit of an idea about what to expect; visually confident direction and a meditative yet uncomfortable tone.
The Neon Demon, also starring Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves, Jena Malone and Bella Heathcote, opens in the U.S. on June 24.
