Some great news for fans of Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin McDonagh (Seven Psychopaths, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and in particular of his much-loved first film, In Bruges.
McDonaugh will be reuniting with In Bruges stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson with a film reportedly titled The Banshees of Inisheer. He’ll be shooting the film around mid-way this year.
Deadline broke the news, reporting that…
“the film is set on a remote Irish isle, and they will play two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship with alarming consequences for both of them.”
McDonagh has only made three films; his first credit was for short film Six Shooter, which won the Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short.
His first feature, 2008’s In Bruges, also starred Ralph Fiennes and followed a guilt-stricken hitman and his partner in Blegium as they await orders from their ruthless boss. It firmly put McDonagh on the map and earned him an Best Screenplay Oscar nomination.
His 2017 picture Thee Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was a big hit, earning wide acclaim and earning both Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell Oscar wins.
