Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl star in Colonia, an upcoming thriller set during the Chilean military coup in 1973.
The film tells of Lena (Watson) and Daniel (Brühl), a young couple who find themselves tangled up in Chile’s ’73 coup, which leads to Daniel’s abduction by General Pinochet’s secret police. Lena’s search for her other half leads her to a sealed off area named Colonia Dignidad, a cult run by the malicious Paul Schäfer (Michael Nyqvist).
Based on true events, Colonia looks to be telling quite the fascinating story set around a truly troubling period in Chile’s history. The trailer itself doesn’t give away too much, which we’re very grateful for, and instead offers a series of intriguing snippets that hint at a tense and dark thriller.
A strong cast and an interesting story; we’re in.
Colonia will be released in Germany on January 21, 2016. Other release dates to be announced soon.
