Okay, we want to see this made into a feature film.
Director Ruairi Robinson only has one feature under his belt, the 2013 Liev Schreiber-starring sci-fi thriller Last Days on Mars, but he’s also quite the talented short filmmaker, delivering artistic, effects and concept-driven shorts that grab the eye. It’s no wonder that at one point he was even attached to direct a live-action version of Akira.
Twitch Film put our eyes on this, a downright awesome concept reel that shows off what Robinson has in mind for a project penned by Fight Club screenwriter Jim Uhls. There’s not much known about The Leviathan, apart from the text that opens the short:
By the early 22nd century mankind had colonized many worlds. Faster than light travel was made possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those that take part in the hunt are mostly involuntary labor.
The Moby Dick elements are clear to see, as is the attention to detail brought to both the creature’s design and the reality of the piece’s environment. There’s not too much to go on, to be sure, but there’s enough to make us want to see more, like, now.
Be sure to check out some of Robinson’s other work on his website HERE.
