Rocky himself will not be in the next film out of the Rocky universe.
Well, at least Sylvester Stallone won’t be. The actor’s reps have confirmed that he will not be starring in Creed III, which is to be the feature directorial debut for Creed star Michael B. Jordan. Stallone apparently revealed the news in response to a fan question on social media. The Hollywood Reporter then confirmed it.
No details have been released as to how Rocky’s absence will be explained. The first Creed saw Rocky dealing with a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma; in Creed II (spoilers), we left Rocky in Vancouver, making peace with his estranged son and meeting his grandson for the first time. In the next chapter, could Rocky be … gone? Hopefully not. It may be possible that Rocky has simply left the ring completely behind now. “It’s your time,” he told Jordan’s Donnie toward the end of Creed II, taking a seat outside the ring as Donnie and his family celebrated a win against Viktor Drago.
While Creed III won’t have Stallone’s beloved character, he’s not gone yet. Stallone has officially finished editing his new cut of Rocky 4. “I’m feeling great about this,” Stallone says in his video post.

Last year, Stallone said that the new version of Rocky 4 “will be more soulful” and the boxing “more impactful.” The actor-filmmaker also revealed that SICO, Paulie’s robot, would be scrapped. “HATE the Robot!”Stallone said, telling a fan question that “the robot is going to the junkyard forever.”
Creed III is currently scheduled for US release on November 23rd, 2022.
