Crimson Peak Trailer: Guillermo del Toro’s Latest Arrives in Style

The first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak is here, and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

The film tells of a young woman (Mia Wasikowska) who is torn between her childhood friend (Tom Hiddleston) and a mysterious outsider (Charlie Hunnam). Oh, and there’s a big freaky house with spirits and ghosts that looks to play an important part in the story too.

There’s no doubt Del Toro’s films are all (at least a little) unique in their own way, but many would agree that it’s been a while since he blew us out of the water. Pacific Rim has its fans, but received an overall mixed reception, and Hellboy II: The Golden Army was a good amount of fun, but neither stood out like his 2006 work of art that is Pan’s Labyrinth.

Could this be a return to the roots that helped establish Del Toro? Possibly. There’s more than a bit of Del Toro’s The Devil’s Backbone here, not to mention a touch of Pan’s Labyrinth, and the fact the studios are already calling this one “his ultimate masterpiece” should provide at least some confidence.

The first trailer doesn’t go for the scares, but it’s still creepy. We’re digging the psychological and supernatural layers hinted at in nearly every shot, and this could be the director’s most stylish-looking film to date. We’re excited.

Jessica Chastain also stars.
