First ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny’ Trailer Introduces the Netflix Sequel

Netflix has released the first trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, the sequel to Ang Lee’s 2000 Oscar-winner.

Michelle Yeoh is back, reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien, and that’s where the returning leads stop. The key inclusion here is that of Donnie Yen as Meng Sizhao, aka Silent Wolf. Ziyi Zhang opted not to return as Jen Yu – that role is now taken by Shuya Chang.

The Harvey Weinstein-produced sequel sees renowned martial arts-movie director and choreographer Yuen Wo-Ping take the helm, which means we should be getting some fantastic action sequences here.

Unfortunately, this first trailer doesn’t exactly provide confidence in the movie as a whole. We’re really not sure about that song in the background, and we’re not digging that the sequel is in English. These qualms could prove minor if the film turns out to be awesome. Here’s hoping.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny will be hitting Netflix and select U.S. Imax cinemas on February 26.

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny tells an epic story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption, set against breathtaking action in an epic martial arts battle between good and evil that will decide the fate of the Martial World.
