A new trailer has dropped for the holiday comedy Daddy’s Home 2, which brings back Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell and adds Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to the mix.

The sequel to the 2015 comedy finds Dusty (Wahlberg) and Brad (Ferrell) in for a very different Christmas to the one they were expecting when their fathers – Gibson and Lithgow respectively – decided to drop by.

While this writer would be more keen to see Wahlberg and Gibson together in a gritty action-thriller, this will just have to do for now. Fans of the first broad family-friendly comedy should be served well with this follow up. The recipe looks right for a solid hit, although it would be nice if the trailer gave us a little more of Gibson’s comedic input – assuming he has some in this film.

Daddy’s Home director and co-writer Sean Anders (That’s My Boy, Horrible Bosses 2) is back at the helm for the sequel, which also brings back Linda Cardellini and John Cena. The film opens in the U.S. on November 10 and arrives in Australia on November 23.

Synopsis for Daddy’s Home 2:

In the sequel to the 2015 global smash, father and stepfather, Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) have joined forces to provide their kids with the perfect Christmas. Their newfound partnership is put to the test when Dusty’s old-school, macho Dad (Mel Gibson) and Brad’s ultra-affectionate and emotional Dad (John Lithgow) arrive just in time to throw the holiday into complete chaos.
