While many actors attached to Marvel projects tiptoe carefully around questions to avoid giving away anything, Daniel Brühl just chills out and drops knowledge.
Brühl, known for his roles in Good Bye Lenin!, Inglourious Basterds, and Rush, has confirmed what many had assumed: he’ll be playing the villainous Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War.
The actor solidified the whispers in an interview with The Independent :
I think I can tell you that without being thrown into Marvel prison… For the first few days I’ll walk around like a little boy, just amazed by the megalomania of it. It’s such a huge project. We could do 20 films with the budget.”
To be clear, Brühl will be playing Baron Helmut Zemo, son of Baron Heinrich Zemo, a classic Cap villain who creates death rays to annihilate earth. The comics see Helmut as an engineer working in Germany, filled with his father’s teachings of the Master Race having the right to rule all. When he hears of Captain America’s return, well, he isn’t happy.
Keeping with the heavily populated plots of the evolving MCU, Baron Helmut Zemo is to be another major character in a film that will see Captain American taking on Iron Man. Oh, and there’s also Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Scarlett Witch, Falcon, and Crossbones. Yep, awesome.
Captain America: Civil War is set to hit the U.S. on May 6, 2016.
