Daniel Brühl, known for Inglourious Basterds and Rush, has been cast in Captain America: Civil War.
Marvel broke the news, stating that Brühl would be joining Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) in Cap’s third outing. The studio didn’t provide any details regarding which character Brühl would be playing, but Variety is reporting that he will be a villain. Their sources say that the actor won’t be playing the lead villain in Civil War, but that he “could potentially be the top menace in Marvel’s Doctor Strange“.
“With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes,” said Producer Kevin Feige.
This is another great casting choice by Marvel. Brühl’s performance as Niki Lauda in Ron Howard’s Rush was brilliant and was disappointingly overlooked at the Academy Awards. Feige’s description of “intense” performances is right, and we’re sure he’ll deliver an unsettling villain.
Captain America: Civil War, to be directed by Winter Soldier‘s Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, is set for a U.S. release on 6 May 2016.
