Marvel Studios has released two new TV spots for Daredevil: Born Again, offering fresh glimpses at the highly anticipated Disney+ series. The dark and gritty follow-up to the original Daredevil show finds Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) on another collision course as the past comes back to haunt them.
The latest previews, titled “Demons” (watch that one above) and “Vengeance” (below), show off some exciting new snippets of footage. They also highlight Murdock’s internal struggle as he continues to walk the fine line between justice and vengeance. “I was raised to believe in grace… but I was also raised to believe in retribution,” he states in one of the teasers.
Violent as Hell…’s Kitchen
One thing is certain: this show is promising to not only revisit the darker elements of its Netflix predecessor, but perhaps even top it in terms of carnage. Showrunner Dario Scardapane, who previously worked on the very violent Marvel-Netflix series The Punisher, has promised the most brutal iteration of Daredevil yet.
OTHER POSTS:
“The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show. I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark,” Scardapane said in an interview with Empire. “There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”
Even D’Onofrio himself has emphasised the darker, more intense direction: “There’s a world in which you might think that if that show kept running, we’d be in this place eventually, or something like it. But we’ve gone further in the darkness, the action, the nastiness.”
The Cast and Team
The series brings back Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, as well as Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter. There’s a big line-up of characters in this chapter, including, as you can see in the spots, villain Muse and White Tiger (portrayed by the late Kamar de los Reyes).
The cast includes Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki M. James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, and Ayelet Zurer.
The show’s episodes are directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Michael Cuesta, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and David Boyd. Executive producers include Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, Chris Gary, Dario Scardapane, Matt Corman & Chris Ord, and Benson & Moorhead.
Release Date
Daredevil: Born Again will debut with a two-episode drop on Disney+ on March 4th in the U.S. and March 5th in Australia. The season will hold nine episodes in total. Initially, the series was going to have 18 episodes, but Marvel opted to split it into two, nine-episode seasons.
