David Gordon Green is set direct Stronger, a Lionsgate drama to focus on the tragic 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
THR reports that Green’s film, one of a few projects based on the attack currently in the works, will tell of bombing survivor Jeff Bauman, who lost both legs as he waited for his girlfriend at the finish line. Three people were killed and 260 others were injured.
The title of the film comes from Bauman’s book, which he co-wrote with Bret Witter, covering his arduous period of rehabilitation and his experience as a key witness in the trial of bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Stronger is being produced by David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, and Scott Silver, who all teamed up on David O. Russell’s The Fighter.
After breaking out with indie dramas such as George Washington and All the Real Girls, Green moved onto comedies with Pineapple Express and Your Highness. Green moved back into more serious fare with Prince Avalanche, Joe, and Al Pacino-starring indie drama Manglehorn. His next film will be Our Brand is Crisis, a dramedy revolving around the use of American political campaign strategies in South America. Sandra Bullock, Billy Bob Thornton, Zoe Kazan and Anthony Mackie star in that one.
