After finding success in previous collaborations Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence have lined up their next film together. Not only is it confirmed that this will be O. Russell’s next movie, but there’s an official title and release date as well. Site Exhibitor Relations tweeted the following:
Fox will release David O. Russell’s JOY on Christmas Day 2015.

Joy will see Jennifer Lawrence play Joy Mangano, the inventor of the Miracle Mop. Mangano was a single-mother working three jobs when she went on air to pitch her invention, taking her from rags to riches almost instantly.
The film’s screenplay comes from Annie Mumolo, who earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing Bridesmaids with Kristen Wiig. It’s safe to assume that O. Russell will be locking in some rewrites, as was the case with his previous three pictures.
December, 2015, is certainly looking to be a busy period, which will see Joy going up against Star Wars: Episode VII, Mission: Impossible 5 and KungFu Panda 3. O. Russell has been nominated for the Best Director Oscar three times in a row now, for The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, but will this be the film to finally earn him a win?
