A24 has unveiled a new trailer for Death of a Unicorn, an offbeat horror-comedy that takes the mythical creature in a much darker direction. The film has Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega playing a father and daughter whose weekend retreat takes a violent turn after they… accidentally hit and kill a unicorn. Take a look above.
The new trailer leans away from the humour of that first look, leaning more into horror as it introduces multiple unicorns that aren’t as mythical or innocent as legends suggest. Rudd and Ortega play Elliot and Ridley, who, while driving through a secluded nature reserve owned by billionaire Leopold (Richard E. Grant), run over a unicorn.

Their discovery quickly catches the attention of the Leopold family, played by Grant, Téa Leoni, and Will Poulter, who see the unicorn’s blood and horn as a potential goldmine due to their supposed curative properties. Poulter’s character is particularly eager to capitalise on this, declaring, “We have a moral imperative to harvest every last one.”
The film marks the directorial debut of Alex Scharfman and features a supporting cast that includes Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, and Jessica Hynes.
Death of a Unicorn will have its world premiere at SXSW on March 8th before hitting US cinemas on March 28th. The film is set for an Australian release on April 10th.
