A new trailer and five character posters have been released for Deepwater Horizon, the upcoming disaster film starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell and John Malkovich.
Deepwater Horizon, which sees Wahlberg reunite with Lone Survivor director Peter Berg, tells of the real-life oil rig disaster that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010. Considered to one of the world’s largest man-made disasters, the incident resulted in the death of 11 workers and the largest accidental oil spill to ever hit the ocean.
I thought Berg and Walberg delivered a solid feature with Lone Survivor, focusing in on the story of the individuals at the centre of a wide-reaching story instead of delving into the politics and repercussions of it all. They look to be doing the same thing here, and the trailer shows what looks to be a dramatic, straight-forward depiction of the disastrous event. We’ll see.
Deepwater Horizon also stars Kate Hudson, Dylan O’Brien, and Gina Rodriguez. The film drops in the U.S. on September 30.
