Yep, that title is no joke. THR is reporting that Tim Story, the director of the hit Kevin Hart-Ice Cube comedy Ride Along, is to helm Diplomats, a comedy inspired by the relationship between Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong Un, the dictator of North Korea.

The ever-eccentric Rodman was thrust back into the spotlight last year when he went on a so-called “hoops diplomacy” mission to North Korea. He became good friends with Jong Un, returning to North Korea in January to organise a basketball game in Pyongyang, where he even sang “Happy Birthday” to the autocrat. A true odd-couple if ever there was one.

Diplomats is to be produced by Peter Chernin, who recently produced the hit comedy The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Jonathan Abrams, who worked as an associate producer on the Stallone-Schwarzenneger thriller Escape Plan, is to write the screenplay.

Kim Jong Un is also to be the inspiration for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s upcoming comedy The Interview, which will see James Franco as a handsome talk show host and Seth Rogan as his producer. The two will find themselves out of their depth when they become involved in a conspiracy to assassinate the North Korean Prime Minister.
