‘Destroyer’ Trailer: Nicole Kidman Transforms into a Disturbed Cop

Annapurna Pictures

Take a look at the trailer released for Destroyer, a dramatic thriller featuring an all-in turn from Oscar winner Nicole Kidman.

The plot follows LAPD detective Erin Ball, who… clearly isn’t doing too well. She went deep undercover with a gang when she was young cop – a period that ended tragically. And now, years later, the leader of that gang has re-emerged.

Reviews from the film’s festival run so far have almost all commended Kidman’s performance, and it certainly looks like an exhausting, emotional, attention-grabbing role. Don’t be surprised to see Kidman earning a few nominations on the upcoming awards circuit.

This one comes from director Karyn Kusama, whose credits include The Invitation and Jennifer’s Body. The screenplay is by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the duo who penned Kusama’s The Invitation as well as the very different Ride Along films. There’s a strong cast here, too, including Toby Kebbell, Tatiana Maslany, Scoot McNairy, Bradley Whitford, and Sebastian Stan.

Destroyer hits US cinemas on Christmas Day, although it may not be in the type of warm holiday picture to take the family to on the day.

Official synopsis for Destroyer:

When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.
