The sixth Die Hard film is coming together.
20th Century Fox is moving forward with the project, which is to be produced and directed by Live Free or Die Hard (aka Die Hard 4.0) helmer Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall).
The Tracking Board is reporting that screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes, known primarily for horror films for The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, House of Wax and The Reaping, have been hired to pen the film .
Bruce Willis is to return as regular guy-turned almost superhero John McClane, although the angle the film will take this time around is an origin story. Yeah, because apparently we all want McClane’s backstory. The rumour is that we’ll have Willis’ McLane bookending the film in the modern day, with a central premise that follows a young McLane as a “regular” cop in the ’70s. So expect a young actor to be cast, unless they want to usual digital/make-up effects to make Willis much, much younger. A potential title being thrown around: Die Hard: Year One.
Despite the mixed to downright poor critical reception afforded to the last couple of Die Hard films, they’ve actually done pretty well financially. Check out the non-adjusted figures provided by Box Office Mojo:
1. Live Free or Die Hard – $US383.5 million
2. Die Hard: With A Vengeance – $US366.1 million
3. A Good Day to Die Hard – $US304.7 million
4. Die Hard 2: Die Harder – $US240.0 million
5. Die Hard – $US140.8 million
Stay tuned as the sixth chapter comes to fruition.
