The first trailer has finally dropped for The Disappointments Room, the delayed horror film starring Kate Beckinsale.

Directed by D.J. Caruso, known for Disturbia, Eagle Eye and I Am Number Four, The Disappointments Room tells of a woman who moves into a new house with her 5-year-old son. Of course, said house isn’t quite normal, and there’s a secret room that probably shouldn’t be opened.

Nothing here sounds or looks remotely surprising, but that being said, this is actually a nicely crafted trailer. Unlike many, many trailers for horror films these days, it appears the major scares aren’t given away, and neither are the plot details. “Don’t get sick again, mommy.” Ooooooh…

The Disappointments Room was dropped off the schedule after Relativity Media’s bankruptcy, was then lined up for U.S. release in November, and has now been scheduled for a limited U.S. theatrical run from September 9, the same day it hits VOD.

The screenplay, by the way, comes from Wentworth Miller, the Prison Break (Michael Scofield) and Flash/Legends of Tomorrow (Captain Cold) actor who also penned Chan-wook Park’s Stoker.

Synopsis for The Disappointments Room:

The psychological thriller follows a woman (Beckinsale) who moves into a new house with her 5-year-old son only to discover a secret room within the attic where unimaginable horrors are accidentally unlocked.
