We all knew Incredibles 2 was going to do well, but even Disney and Pixar must be even a little surprised at these massive numbers.
The sequel to Pixar’s two-time Oscar-winning 2004 hit The Incredibles opened to very positive reviews and healthy box office openings, and it’s clearly had legs. The film, which is still screening theatrically in certain markets, has earned over $US1.16 billion in worldwide box office receipts.
The CG-animated sequel also passed $US600 million in the US; the first-ever animated film to do so. It flew passed the previous domestic record holder: Finding Dory, which earned $US486.2 million in the States and raked in $US1.028 million worldwide.
That worldwide box office result – thus far – makes The Incredibles 2 the second-highest grossing animated film of all time, when looking at unadjusted numbers. And it still is yet to be released in Italy and Germany.
Disney’s Frozen remains the highest-grossing animated film with an impressive $US1.27 billion (unadjusted for inflation) .
