D.J. Caruso has signed on to direct Selling Time, a supernatural-thriller from 20th Century Fox. Selling Time follows a man who is given the unique opportunity to relive the worst day of his life in order to alter a tragedy, for the exchange of seven years off his own life expectancy.
Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye, I Am Number Four) will oversee a new draft written by Dan McDermott (Eagle Eye). Deadline reports that numerous scriptwriters, including Spike Lee and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, have created several versions.
The new re-write comes with the hopes that Will Smith will sign on as the lead actor. Although Smith has not committed yet, it’s a likely outcome as he’s had his eye on the lead role for more than a decade. McDermott had originally sold it as a spec to Fox 2000, while he was president of DreamWorks Television in 2001.
John Davis and Jennifer Klein are attached as producers.
