Doctor Who‘s presence at Comic-Con included a look at Peter Capaldi’s final turn as the Time Lord.
A trailer for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, titled Twice Upon a Time, has been released online. The special, which only finished shooting three days prior to Comic-Con, finds both the 12th doctor and 1st doctor refusing to regenerate.
Twice Upon a Time will mark the last outing with Capaldi in the lead role, will bring in David Bradley as The Doctor, will see the return of the Doctor’s most recent companion, Pearl Mackie’s Bill, and will also be introducing our next Time Lord. Jodie Whittaker was recently announced as the new Doctor; her run will likely be kicking off mid-2018.

Some bad news for those that were holding out hope that Bill will stay on as the Doctor’s companion past this year’s special. “No, that’s it after that,” Mackie said during the Comic-Con panel. “Christmas special, last chance to see Bill. But it is Doctor Who, so never say never.”
The panel also saw Capaldi share his thoughts on Whittaker’s casting. “I think Jodie is going to be amazing,” he said. “I spoke to her the other day and she’s so full of excitement and passion about the show. It’s thrilling to know it’s in the hands of someone who cares for it deeply and is so excited about it. So she’s a great choice for it.”
A bittersweet farewell compilation was also delivered, offering fans a look back at Capaldi’s journey playing the much-loved character:
