‘Don’t Breathe’ Sequel Going Ahead, Director Chosen

Sony Pictures

The Blind Man returneth.

Yes, Stephen Lang is set to reprise his role as the blind killer he so memorably played in the hit 2016 thriller Don’t Breathe. Word that a sequel to the Fede Alvarez-directed (Evil Dead, The Girl in the Spider’s Web) film was being planned came in late 2016, just a few months after the first film came out. It’s been pretty quiet on that front, until now.

A director has been chosen for the follow-up. Alvarez will not be returning at the helm, with directing duties this time going to his frequent collaborator, Rodo Sayagues. This will mark the feature directorial debut for Sayagues, who co-wrote the first film with Alvarez and also worked with him on writing 2013’s Evil Dead. Two pair will again be writing the script for Don’t Breath 2.

While details on the plot are being kept under wraps, it sounds like The Blind Man (as he was credited in the original) is going to be in for another rude awakening. THR reports that the film will be “set several years after the home invasion of the first movie, with the Blind Man living in quiet solace…until his past sins catch up to him.”

Don’t Breathe was a hit with both critics (we loved it – our review is HERE) and audiences. At the box office it raked in over $US157 million worldwide from a budget of just under $US10 million.

The still-untitled sequel is set to begin production this April.
