Apple TV+ has unveiled a first-look image (above) and confirmed the release date for its high-profile upcoming crime drama, Dope Thief. The show boasts a creative team that includes Academy Award-nominee Peter Craig (The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick, The Town), serving as creator and executive producer, and filmmaker Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien), on board an executive producer and director of the opening episode.
Based on Dennis Tafoya’s acclaimed 2009 novel of the same name, Dope Thief delves into the gritty underworld of crime in Philadelphia, following two long-time friends and small-time criminals who impersonate DEA agents to pull off a rural heist. Their plan spirals out of control when their scam inadvertently exposes a massive and dangerous narcotics corridor on the Eastern seaboard, forcing the pair into a perilous game of survival.
The cast is led by Brian Tyree Henry, the Academy Award-nominated actor known for his work in Atlanta, Causeway, and Bullet Train, and Wagner Moura, who disappeared into the role of Pablo Escobar in Netflix’s Narcos and was recently seen in Alex Garland’s Civil War.
Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Prodigy), Nesta Cooper (See), Amir Arison (The Blacklist), and Golden Globe-winner Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible franchise) round out the ensemble.
Produced by Apple Studios and Scott Free Productions, Dope Thief‘s roster of executive producers includes star Henry, David W. Zucker, Richard Heus, Jordan Sheehan, Clayton Krueger, and Jennifer Wiley-Moxley, alongside Craig, Scott, and Henry.
Dope Thief will debut globally on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes on Friday, 14 March 2025, followed by weekly instalments every Friday until 25 April. Stay tuned for the trailer!
