Matt Damon is shrunken down in Downsizing, the latest film from Oscar winner Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants).
The final official trailer has arrived for the film, which tells of a time when it’s possible to transform people to five inches tall to help the over-population problem. Everyman Paul (Damon) and his wife (Kristen Wiig) decide to undergo the procedure and move to a miniaturised world, where money is converted to a much, much higher value and life seems to be better all round.
More of the plot is offered up in the new trailer below, including the fact that Paul’s wife decides – at the last second – that she won’t be making the transition. It looks delightful, with Payne’s quirky sense of humour and emotional honesty seemingly just right for this nutty story. Let’s hope it’s another winner for the filmmaker.
Downsizing, also staring Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau and Jason Sudeikis, will open in the US on December 22 and arrives in Australia on Boxing Day.
Official synopsis for Downsizing:
‘Downsizing’ imagines what might happen if, as a solution to over-population, Norwegian scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small. People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, and with the promise of a better life, everyman Paul Safranek (Matt Damon) and wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha in order to get small and move to a new downsized community — a choice that triggers life-changing adventures.
