Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are set to star in a new comedy series from Netflix.
Barrymore and Olyphant have been cast in Santa Clarita Diet, an original comedy series penned by Victor Fresco, known for ABC comedy Better Off Ted.
The single-camera comedy will tell of a married couple, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore), two realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction…but in a good way.
“The genius of casting Timothy and Drew, combined with my comedic… oh wait, that’s Cindy’s quote,” read the statement from executive producer/showrunner Victor Fresco. “I agree with what Cindy is about to say.”
Said Cindy Holland, Netflix vice president of original content: “The genius casting of Timothy and Drew combined with Victor’s unique comedic sensibility will delight, and definitely surprise, our members around the world.”
This marks the first television series-regular run for Barrymore, known for roles in films as E.T., Charlie’s Angels and 50 First Dates. Olyphant, on the other hand, is well known for his work on the small screen. Olyphant’s TV credits include Deadwood and Justified, the latter of which wrapped up its sixth and final season last year.
Santa Clarita Diet has been picked up straight to series, with a plan to premiere sometime in 2017.
