Production is officially underway on the second season of HBO’s Dune: Prophecy, with cameras rolling across Hungary, Jordan and Spain — and a behind-the-scenes video giving fans a first peek at the cast’s return to the Bene Gesserit’s origins.
Season one scored four Emmy nominations this year, and HBO is now expanding the scope: the new season has been given eight episodes, up from the initial run’s six. In a landscape where streamers often lean towards shorter orders, the bump signals continued confidence in the large-scale prequel series from showrunner Alison Schapker.
The behind-the-scenes video, released on social media, shows cast members scattered across their respective filming locations, teasing what’s next for the shadowy sect at the centre of the Dune universe.

The series is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ rise, charting the Harkonnen sisters’ efforts to confront forces threatening the future of humankind while laying down the foundation of the Bene Gesserit. Season two continues the story established in the first chapter, weaving political tension, ancient tradition and the early architecture of the order long before the events of Dune itself.
HBO and Legendary Television are again co-producing, continuing the cross-media partnership that also powers the blockbuster film franchise. Schapker returns as showrunner and executive producer, joined by Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, Kevin Lau, Monica Owusu-Breen, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns and Jon Spaihts. Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert represent the Frank Herbert estate, with Kevin J. Anderson on board as co-producer.
New faces join the Bene Gesserit world
Season two adds several notable cast members, including Indira Varma, known for Coldwater, The Night Manager and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. She’s joined by Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Adolescence, Bullet Boy), who recently earned acclaim for his lead performance in Adolescence. Tom Hollander, fresh off The White Lotus and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, is also stepping into the Dune universe.
The returning ensemble remains sizeable, with Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten and Tessa Bonham Jones all back for more.
When could it premiere?
HBO hasn’t announced a release date yet. With production just commencing and the expanded episode count in play, a late-2026 premiere isn’t impossible — though 2027 appears more realistic.
