Dungeon Crawler Carl is officially heading to television, and Peacock is not wasting time. The streamer has handed a straight-to-series order to a live-action adaptation of Matt Dinniman’s hugely popular LitRPG book series, a big step forward after the project was reported as being in development at Peacock earlier this year.
The series is coming from Universal Global Television and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door, with Chris Yost, whose credits include Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian and the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord, set to write and executive produce.

Dinniman confirmed the news on Instagram, writing: “Me, Chris Yost and Seth MacFarlane and his team at Fuzzy Door are all really excited to get to work.”
He also shared that he and Yost will be appearing on a Dungeon Crawler Carl panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, adding: “In the meantime I wanted to thank you, the fans, for helping make this happen.”
What Is Dungeon Crawler Carl About?
The premise is gloriously unhinged, mixing apocalypse survival, dungeon-crawling carnage, reality-TV satire and one extremely memorable feline companion.
The official description reads: “An alien invasion has wiped out most of humanity and any survivors are forced to fight for their lives on a sadistic intergalactic game show. Sounds bad, right? Now try doing it with bare feet and a stuck-up, self-centered, tiara-wearing talking cat as your partner.”
It continues: “Welcome to Dungeon Crawler World: Earth, where the apocalypse will be televised … and Coast Guard vet Carl finds himself stuck with his ex-girlfriend’s award-winning show cat, Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk, as they try to survive the end of the world, fighting monsters, aliens, an insane A.I. and even other survivors — all for the sake of good TV. Survival is optional. Entertainment is not.”
So, yes: the show will need to balance end-of-the-world stakes, violent chaos, savage humour and a talking cat with a tiara.
A Fast-Moving Adaptation for a Huge Book Series
Universal International Studios, the predecessor to Universal Global Television, and Fuzzy Door first acquired the rights to Dinniman’s books in 2024, with Yost attached from the start. The move to a straight-to-series order means Peacock is skipping the pilot stage and going straight into production on a first season.
That is a strong vote of confidence in the material, and it is easy to see why the streamer would be interested. Dinniman began self-publishing Dungeon Crawler Carl in 2020, with the series quickly building a major following. The eighth and most recent book, A Parade of Horribles, was released on May 12, 2026, and the series has reportedly sold more than 10 million copies, with two more books planned.
Yost will executive produce alongside MacFarlane, Erica Huggins and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald for Fuzzy Door. Dinniman will serve as co-executive producer.
No casting or release date has been announced yet. But with a full series order in play, more news on Carl, Princess Donut and Peacock’s very strange apocalypse will not be too far away.
