Okay, seriously, how many Dwayne Johnsons are there!?
The wrestler turned ridiculously-hard-working Hollywood businessman is lining up projects left, right and centre, with a pipeline that includes Central Intelligence, Fast 8, Baywatch, San Andreas 2, Jumanji, Rampage and his HBO series Ballers. And there’s also a planned cinematic universe based on books by Bourne author Robert Ludlum.
The latest Johnson news is that he’s set to reunite with his Central Intelligence director for Skyscraper, an action film set in China.
Deadline reports that Johnson has signed on to star in Skyscraper, an action film being described as “Die Hard in China,” where “one man goes up against extraordinary circumstances.” So far, so cool.
Central Intelligence helmer Rawson Marshall Thurber is attached to write and direct the picture, with Beau Flynn (San Andreas) on board as producer.
A number of big studios were circling when news first broke, and Deadline is now reporting that Legendary has won a big bidding war for the rights to the project. This would have been quite the deal, considering early reports had a number of studios offering up seven-figure bids.
It’s not hard to see why studios were keen to get this one. Johnson + kick-ass action + China = Potentially massive numbers.
Now it just remains to be seen where on the oh-so busy schedule Johnson will be placing Skyscraper. We’ll keep you informed.
