Universal’s aiming for that star power for their planned action-comedy, Red Notice.
Dwayne Johnson is attached to star in and produce the heist film from Central Intelligence and Skyscraper writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber, and it looks like Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot will be his co-star.
As reported by That Hashtag Show, Gadot is the star of choice for Universal and Thurber, who Deadline claims flew to London for less than 30 hours to solely pitch the part to the actress. Gadot is currently shooting Wonder Woman 2 with director Patty Jenkins.
Gadot is clearly the top choice for this one. Johnson took to Instagram with a rundown of his leg workout routine, and quickly showed the name “Gal Gadot” up on his vision board.
With Johnson and Gadot, it’s clear this is a big one, and the price tags certainly suggest as much. Apparently the film will hold a budget north of $US150 million, with Johnson earning his first $US22 million paycheck. Thurber will reportedly earn over $US10 million. It’s a tent-pole project for Universal, the studio that won the film in a heated bidding battle in February.
As of now, Red Notice is expected to begin filming in Europe in April 2019, with a worldwide release planned for June 12, 2020.
Johnson, of course, has plenty on the horizon, including Skyscraper (in Australia July 12 and US July 13), Disney’s Jungle Cruise, and Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw, among many, many other projects.
