No, the heading above is not a joke. Not only is there a Baywatch movie on the way, THR is reporting that Dwayne Johnson will star.
Paramount is finally getting a move on with their Baywatch movie, which has reportedly been on the table for years, hiring Justin Malen to rewrite the film’s screenplay and attaching Sean Anders and John Morris to direct. Anders and Morris are best known for writing Hot Tub Time Machine and We’re the Millers.
Johnson tweeted the casting news himself:

Rated R? That’s certainly interesting. So far, especially with Anders and Morris at the helm, it’s looking like the film adaptation of the successful 90s television series will be a raunchy comedy. There’s no word yet on what the plot will be.
Before we see Johnson running down the beach in slo-mo, we’ll see him reprise his role as Luke Hobbs in Fast & Furious 7 and see him play a rescue-chopper pilot in the disaster actioner San Andreas.
