Dylan O’Brien, the lead actor in the Maze Runner franchise, has been injured in an accident while filming the third film in the series, The Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

O’Brien, who plays Thomas in the adaptation of James Dashner’s Y.A. book series, suffered what TMZ is reporting as “serious injuries.” The actor was reportedly filming a scene involving a vehicle “when something went wrong and he was run over.” Apparently the actor suffered multiple broken bones and was taken to hospital immediately.

“Dylan O’Brien was injured yesterday while filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure in Vancouver, Canada,” reads 20 Century Fox’s statement, via THR.

“He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery.”

Author Dashner has taken to Twitter to clarify that O’Brien’s injuries were not life-threatening.

“Well, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions these past dew days,” director Wes Ball, at the helm of all three Maze Runner films, said on Twitter.

“I’ve been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with just a deep love and respect for Dylan. He is one tough cookie. I’m sorry for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew. It’s scary seeing your friend get hurt, but fortunately, Dylan is going to be just fine. After a few weeks of rest and recovery he’ll be back up and running to finish our adventure together. All the best.”

The Maze Runner: The Death Cure will be hitting the U.S. on February 17, 2017.
