Production has officially begun on Early Man, the upcoming feature from Wallace and Gromit studio Aardman and Studiocanal.

The two studios made the announcement by unveiling the first bit of character animation, introducing lead characters Dug and sidekick Hognob, the latter of which will be voiced by none other than Eddie Redmayne.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of how plucky caveman Dug, along with sidekick Hognob, unites his tribe against the mighty Bronze Age in a battle to beat them at their own game.

This will mark the first feature for director Nick Park since his Oscar winning film Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Park is also known for Wallace and Gromit outings The Wrong Pants and A Close Shave, and for co-directing the successful 2000 film Chicken Run.

Early Man has been scheduled for release in Australia and New Zealand on March 28, 2018.
