CollegeHumor’s most popular and longest-running online series Jake & Amir is being developed as a television series by TBS. Deadline has reported that comedy duo Amir Blumenfeld and Jake Hurwitz will star in and co-write the series, alongside writing duo Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger (Spin City, Just Shoot Me!).
The Hangover’s Ed Helms is attached as an executive producer on the project.
The show will “revolve around an odd-couple friendship between best friends and co-workers Jake (Hurwitz), the sensible “regular guy”, and Amir (Blumenfeld), the obsessive oddball. Together they must navigate the cubicles of their workplace, stand up to the corporate man and try to function with their dysfunctional co-workers, all while maintaining their shenanigans.”
CollegeHumor, who helped Blumenfeld and Hurwitz pitch the idea to networks, is producing the show. TBS bought the project in an attempt to further their younger-skewing comedy fare, which is being led by their hit show The Big Bang Theory.
There’ll be no lack of plot, with Blumenfeld and Hurwitz writing and starring in more than 600 Jake & Amir videos (two a week for the past five years).
