Elizabeth Banks is to follow up her directorial debut by sticking to the franchise that she has produced, appeared in, and directed in (Pitch Perfect 2).
According to Variety‘s sources, Banks has decided to direct Pitch Perfect 3, the follow-up to the successful sequel.
The third film in the series will see Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson return in their respective roles, with franchise writer Kay Cannon back on screenwriting duties.
Pitch Perfect 2 has earned over $285 million worldwide on a relatively modest budget of $29 million, an impressive draw that topped the surprising $115 million the first film made on a budget of $17 million. It’s understandable why Universal and Gold Circle Entertainment would want to keep this franchise going.
Banks will next be see reprising her role as Effie Trinket in the last chapter of the Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
