Emily Blunt could take on the iconic role played by Julie Andrews in 1964.
Blunt is in talks to lead Disney’s upcoming Mary Poppins film. Variety reports that while the studio and actress have began discussing the possibility of her playing the magical nanny, Blunt’s signing depends on whether or not the picture can fit into her schedule. The actress is reportedly expecting a second child, which could be an issue if Disney wants to move into production anytime soon.
Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Into the Woods) is set to direct from a screenplay penned by David Magee (Finding Neverland, Life of Pi).
The new Mary Poppins film will not be a remake, instead serving as more of a sequel, catching up with Poppins 20 years after the events that took place in the first film. The plot will include elements from other books in P.L. Travers’ Mary Poppins book series.
Blunt would be quite the get for this one. The actress has serious range, from comedy (The Devil Wears Prada, The Five-Year Engagement), to action (Edge of Tomorrow), to thrillers (Sicario). We’ll keep you informed.
