There’s a live-action Beauty and the Beast film on the way, and Emma Watson will be playing the titular beauty.
“I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast!” Watson wrote on Facebook.
“It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to “Be Our Guest” and sing “Something There”. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it”
Bill Condon (Kinsey, Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 & 2) will be directing from a script by Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower).
Beauty and the Beast will continue Disney’s plan to deliver live-action takes on their library of animated films, following last year’s Maleficent, Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Cinderella and Jon Favreau’s upcoming The Jungle Book.
According to an official press release, “Disney’s upcoming live-action interpretation” of Beauty and the Beast is expected to enter production later this year.
