‘Escape from Pretoria’ Trailer: Daniel Radcliffe Plans a Prison Break in Adelaide-Shot Thriller

Daniel Radcliffe plans to escape from jail in the upcoming true-story thriller Escape from Pretoria.

The trailer has arrived for the UK-Australian production, which tells the true story of how activist Tim Jenkins planned an escape from a maximum security prison after being imprisoned during South Africa’s Apartheid in the ’70s. Fantastic Aussie actor Daniel Webber (The Punisher, Danger Close), Mark Leonard Winter (The Dressmaker) and Ian Hart (The Last Kingdom) also star as fellow inmates. And by the way, that’s Adelaide doubling as South Africa.

The prison escape film can work a treat if done right, even with familiar tropes that we’ve seen play out for years. There’s a solid cast with Radcliffe and Webber as leads, and although it looks like a relatively “small” production, it could carry some hefty emotional weight. We’ll see.

Escape from Pretoria, directed and co-written by Francis Annan (Woyzeck), will have a theatrical UK release on March 6, 2020.

Official synopsis for Escape from Pretoria:

Daniel Radcliffe stars as Tim Jenkins – a real life ANC activist who was imprisoned in Africa’s maximum security prison Pretoria in the 1970’s during the Apartheid. Along with two imprisoned fellow freedom fighters, played by Daniel Webber and Mark Leonard Winter, Tim escaped on 11th December 1970 using hand-made wooden keys which he crafted whilst incarcerated.
