Sylvester Stallone is back as security expert Ray Breslin in the sequel Escape Plan 2: Hades.
The follow-up finds Breslin having to return to another high-security prison, this one known as Hades, when a member of his newly-formed security force is locked up. He gets an old “acquaintance friend” (Dave Bautista) to help him out.
A home entertainment release is in store for the sequel. While the production values don’t appear to be much lower than those of the first film, the lack of Arnold Schwarzenegger and some dodgy-looking effects would have no doubt made it easier for Lionsgate to just skip a theatrical run. Still, this could offer up a bit of fun, and having Bautista on board shouldn’t hurt.
Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson is back as the tech expert and the cast also includes Titus Welliver, who’s the new warden baddie (Jim Caviezel had that role in the first film), Xiaoming Huang, Jesse Metcalfe, Jamie King and Alphonso A’Qen-Aten Jackson. The US-China production is directed by Steven C. Miller, whose straight-to-home-entertainment actioners include Bruce Willis-featuring pics Extraction and Marauders. Miles Chapman, co-writer of the first film, is sole screenwriter this time around.
Escape Plan 2: Hades is scheduled to hit Blu-ray, Digital and On Demand in the US on June 29.
Escape Plan 3, by the way, has already been filmed and is currently in post-production. That one’s directed by 2 Days in the Valley and 15 Minutes helmer John Herzfeld.
