Djimon Hounsou has been added to the already-impressive cast of Fast & Furious 7. The actor is joining a big list of names that includes Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Kurt Russell, Tony Jaa and MMA fighter Ronda Rousey were also recently added. The Expendables 3 certainly has competition regarding bragging rights over big casts.
There is no word on what capacity Djimon Hounsou will be involved.
Fast & Furious 7 will be written by Chris Morgan, who has written every installment of the franchise since Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift. Director Justin Lin (also attached to the franchise since Tokyo Drift) has stepped down and has been replaced with James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring).
Hopefully James Wan can bring the over-the-top sense of giddy-fun that Lin has been bringing of late. Wan’s expertise lies in horror, but he’s a good director that has been perfecting his craft over the years. The Fast & Furious films may not be high-brow in the slightest, but the last two entries in the franchise have provided some very entertaining blockbusters. Fast & Furious 7 will be going into production soon and is scheduled to be released July 11, 2014.
