Warner Bros. has released the final official trailer for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, the upcoming reimagining of the Excalibur myth by filmmaker Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes).

Charlie Hunnam plays the titular would-be king who takes the classic sword on a journey to claim his rightful place at the throne.

If you’ve seen the previous trailers, you’ll no doubt be well aware of the type of film on offer here. It looks like a slickly-produced, over-the-top, action-focused retelling, with Ritchie continuing on Sherlock Holmes and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. popcorn mode. The let’s-show-off-as-much-of-the-movie-as-we-can new trailer has plenty of CG-enhanced mayhem to take in, while Jude Law seems to be enjoying some scenery chewing.  It’s a little hard to tell if Ritchie has a crowd-pleasing winner or a flop in waiting here; fingers crossed for the former.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, also starring Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Eric Bana and Annabelle Wallis, arrives in Australia on May 11 and opens in the US on May 12.

Synopsis for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword:

Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne.

When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.
