The first Focus trailer has dropped, giving us a look at the upcoming romantic-thriller starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie. The film tells the story of Nicky (Smith), a seasoned con artist who becomes involved with Jess (Robbie). After teaching her the trade, he cuts off their romantic fling. When they meet up again three years later, there’s a whole new con game in play. This looks like fun, with Smith and Robbie playing parts that suit them down to a T. Written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the duo behind I Love You Phillip Morris and Crazy, Stupid, Love, we’re expecting a lively crowdpleaser here, and we certainly don’t mind some of the darker elements teased at in the trailer. Fingers crossed this one delivers.
Official synopsis for Focus:
Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop…and the consummate con man off his game.
