Names seem to be added and deleted every second day, but it seems like the cast for The Expendables 3 just got really damn interesting. Firstly, Bruce Willis will no longer be a part of the film. THR reported that he asked for way too much money: $4 million for 4 days of shooting. This gave way for Harrison Ford’s entry. Sylvester Stallone tweeted “WILLIS OUT . . . HARRISON FORD IN!!!! GREAT NEWS!!!!! Been waiting years for this!!!!,” then followed it up with a second tweet reading “GREEDY AND LAZY . . . A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE.” Them sound like fightin’ words.
Now, Entertainment Weekly has reported that Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas will also be a part of the film. Gibson will be playing the villain of the piece. It seem as though he’s enjoying the villain role – he’ll also be playing the bad guy in Rodriguez’s Machete Kills. It isn’t yet know what character Banderas will be playing.
The Expendables isn’t exactly a high-brow franchise. The first film was a fun throwback to the action flicks of yester-year, but the second film dipped into the “lame” variety once too often. The cast for the third entry has definitely grown into something special. These three actors are downright awesome; we’d watch them walk away from explosions any day.
