Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Frankenstein, Guillermo del Toro’s take on Mary Shelley’s tale, with Aussie star Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn) as the Creature and Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Star Wars) as Victor Frankenstein. Watch the trailer above and read on for the essentials.
“My maker told his tale,” Jacob Elordi’s Creature whispers over a lightning-scarred tower. “And I… will tell you mine.” This time the focus shifts from Victor to his creation — statuesque, almost delicate, and terrifying when it counts. As the footage shows the Creature hunting his maker and charging through hails of bullets, he lays down a chilling ultimatum: “If you are not to award me love, then I will indulge in rage.”

The trailer culminates in Victor facing his creation, who lights a stick of dynamite and tells him, “Now… run.”
Del Toro’s design: baby, philosopher, soldier
“He needs to feel like a baby, and then he needs to feel like a philosopher, like a man,” del Toro tells Netflix’s Tudum. His version roots the origin in the Crimean War — a body “pieced together out of the frozen bodies of soldiers found on a shattered battlefield.” Or, as the director puts it: “He’s working with a bunch of mutilated corpses… This is a resurrected soldier out of a mass grave, basically.”
Elordi’s playbook
For performance cues, Elordi drew on the Japanese dance-theatre form butoh — and even his own golden retriever. He said of his canine influence: “There’s a real innocence in the way she moves and the way that she loves.”
The cast and release date
Joining Elordi and Isaac is Mia Goth (no stranger to horror), Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance, and Ralph Ineson.
Frankenstein opens in select U.S. cinemas on October 17 and arrives on Netflix on November 7.
