New ‘Frozen 2’ Trailer Explores the Origins of Elsa’s Powers

Walt Disney Pictures

“We have always feared Elsa’s powers were too much for this world.”

So says Pabbie in the new trailer to arrive for Disney‘s Frozen 2, which we now know will be exploring the origins of Elsa’s magic. “Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom,” reads the official synopsis for the sequel. The trailer teases some dark and magical happenings as Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf (Josh Gad) and Sven head on a journey, although, smartly, there’s still plenty of plot being kept under wraps.

Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck return at the helm for the sequel, which this time comes with a screenplay written by Allison Schroeder (Hidden Figures, Christopher Robin). Lee wrote the first film.

Frozen 2, also featuring voice work from Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown, is scheduled to be released in the US on November 22 and in Australia on November 28.

Official synopsis for Frozen II:

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough.

From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.
