Frozen has officially become the highest grossing animated film of all time. The stats are in and, according to Box Office Mojo, Frozen has earned $1,072.4 billion in worldwide box-office receipts, knocking Toy Story 3 off the coveted position of the highest earning animated film ever made.
The Academy Award-winning film got its last box-office push in Japan, the last country to receive Frozen. Deadline reports that film has earned $50.5 million in the country so far, $7.5 million of it added this weekend.
Frozen’s box-office draw places it at number 10 on the list of the highest earning films of all time, one spot behind The Dark Knight Rises and one spot ahead of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Quite a feat, just don’t expect it to approach anywhere near the number one spot. James Cameron’s Avatar will be holding onto that spot for some time, with a record-breaking $2,782.3 billion in earnings. We’re interested to see if Joss Whedon’s next Avengers film gets closer, after Marvel’s The Avengers placed at number 3 with worldwide earnings of $1,518.6 billion.
