Cliff Booth is back — and he’s found himself another corner of Hollywood where trouble comes with the job. Netflix has released the official trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, bringing Brad Pitt back to his Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time in Hollywood role, with David Fincher directing a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. Watch the trailer above and get everything you need to know below.
We’re catching up with Cliff in 1977, eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with the stuntman days largely behind him. Rick Dalton is no longer paying the bills; Cliff now bounces between bar work, shifts in a cinema projection room and a much less conventional sideline cleaning up Hollywood messes.
More on Screen Realm:
As Netflix rather nicely puts it: “What was once a fairytale is now a crime story.” That shift says plenty about where this follow-up is heading. Cliff is no longer simply brushing against Hollywood’s uglier side; dealing with it has become the job.
What Does the Cliff Booth Trailer Show?
And it looks like, to borrow a Quentin Tarantino line previously delivered by Pitt in Inglourious Basterds, business is a-boomin’.
Backed by Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” the trailer reintroduces Cliff through a story that has clearly become Hollywood legend. Two men are discussing the stuntman who once beat the hell out of Bruce Lee, only to realise that very stuntman has just wandered into the room. Cliff, naturally, doesn’t appear particularly impressed with his own reputation.
We then get a look at his decidedly scattered working life. He’s threading film through a projector at a cinema one minute, tending bar the next and taking care of considerably murkier business in between. Briefcases stuffed with money, gangsters, mud wrestling, car chases and surprisingly casual conversations about killing people with knives soon enter the picture.
His employment may have changed. His ability to end up around absolute chaos apparently hasn’t.
Where’s Rick?
And as for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton? Elizabeth Debicki’s Karen Crosby asks why Cliff stopped doubling for his movie-star buddy. Cliff’s answer is about as sentimental as you’d expect: “Oh, Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore.”
That makes The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth something different from a conventional Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel. The first film was built around the relationship between struggling actor Rick and the stuntman, driver, handyman and best friend who was rarely far behind him. This time, Cliff gets the whole spotlight.
So, What Is Cliff Booth Actually Doing Now?

Cliff’s main line of work these days is fixing problems for people in Hollywood, using a skill set that has never exactly been restricted by the law.
As Netflix describes it, “Hollywood will always have problems, problems that can only be solved by someone with Cliff’s unique (occasionally extralegal) abilities.”
The job at the centre of the film comes through Karen Crosby, a talent agent played by Elizabeth Debicki. Her client is Charlie Peters (Scott Caan), a major television star who has something in common with the old Cliff: despite his status, Charlie likes doing his own stunt work.
Charlie comes with an interesting circle of his own. Carla Gugino plays his wife, Toni, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, a champion football player trying his hand at life in front of the camera.
And because Cliff Booth apparently can’t take a job without organised crime somewhere nearby, Matt Groove and JB Tadena play the Verdusco brothers, gangsters creating problems across Los Angeles. How they connect to whatever Cliff has been hired to handle is being kept quiet for now.
Why Is David Fincher Directing a Quentin Tarantino Movie?
It’s one hell of a creative team-up. Tarantino created Cliff, wrote and directed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and wrote this follow-up, but decided against directing it himself.
Tarantino’s decision wasn’t about losing faith in the script. It came down to what he wants from his own final turn behind the camera.
“I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked,” he said while appearing on The Church of Tarantino podcast in 2025, according to Variety.
With the filmmaker still intending his 10th feature to be his last, he said that final project needs to take him somewhere unfamiliar: “I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.”
Fincher entered the picture through Pitt. As the actor told Esquire, he asked Tarantino whether he could pass the screenplay along to his longtime collaborator.
“Finch and I were on a plane and I gave him the script, and by the time we landed he said, ‘I’m doing it.'”
It’s quite the creative hand-off: an unmistakably Tarantino character and screenplay, but with one of Hollywood’s most distinctive filmmakers controlling what ends up on screen.
Pitt and Fincher Are Reuniting After Nearly Two Decades
The film also brings Pitt and Fincher back together for their fourth feature. Their collaborations stretch back to Se7en in 1995, followed by Fight Club in 1999 and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008.
Fincher has several familiar collaborators around him as well. Erik Messerschmidt serves as director of photography, Donald Graham Burt is production designer and Kirk Baxter is editing the film. All three have extensive histories working with the director.
Who Else Is in the Cast?

Pitt is joined by Elizabeth Debicki as Karen Crosby, Scott Caan as Charlie Peters, Carla Gugino as Toni and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison.
The cast also includes Peter Weller as Gus Booth, Cliff’s father, as well as Corey Fogelmanis, Karren Karagulian, Matt Groove, JB Tadena and Holt McCallany. Timothy Olyphant is reprising his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood role as real-life actor James Stacy.
Pitt is producing alongside Ceán Chaffin, with Tarantino, David Heyman and Stacey Sher also among the producing team.
