Gal Gadot to Star in Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Death on the Nile’ Movie

Kenneth Branagh is readying his follow-up to Murder on the Orient Express, the 2017 adaptation of Agathie Christie’s Detective Hercule Poirot book he directed and starred in, and he has his first star.

Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has been cast in Death on the Nile, which will have Branagh back on board as director. Deadline broke the news, reporting that Gadot will be playing Linnet Ridgeway Doyle, a rich heiress that has recently married the former fiance of a past friend.

Christie’s 1937 book told of Poirot investigating a murder on a luxurious cruise on the Nile River. The investigation gets all the more complicated when a number of the suspects start getting killed.

Although there’s been no official word, Branagh is expected to reprise his role as Poirot. The end of the Murder on the Orient Express set up the sequel, finding Poirot being asked to investigate a death on the Nile. He accepts the case.

Murder on the Orient Express was a hit for 20th Century Fox, the star-studded film earning $US352.8 million in worldwide box office receipts from a budget of $US55 million. The sequel, which will find screenwriter Michael Green back on writing duties, is scheduled for US release on 20 December 2020.

Also on the horizon for Gadot: DC sequel Wonder Woman 1984 and heist film Red Notice, the latter co-starring Dwayne Johnson.
